At the beginning of July, after a lot of R&D, CML began the complex task of building a Carbon Fibre Spiral Staircase for a housing development in Grenada (30/06/2008 - Prickly Bay Helical Staircases underway.). In house plug makers set to work on the complex tooling that is now complete.

The bulk of the tooling was built from this purpose built over-sized barrel.

CML will need to cure the tooling and mouldings in a purpose built oven before it can be broken out. Because the tooling will be subjected to such high temperatures CML decided to use a Sicomin system which could sustain the extreme usage.

After all the carbon mouldings have been produced the final challenge will come when it all gets put together. With so many complex joints the central steel column that has been designed to sit inside the carbon will guide all the mouldings to sit in place.

CML will build an initial 3 Staircases which will be shipped in parts and then reassembled in Grenada.
