Composite Mouldings (CML) based in Southampton, UK are pleased to announce its entry into the medium sized sail boat market, with a 14 metre performance cruiser, design name B45, a performance cruiser. The company say they aim to have the prototype ready by the beginning of 2011. The prototype will be built from cedar strip plank construction overlaid with epoxy. Future customers will also have the option of a composite epoxy infused version.

“I’ve always loved wooden boats” says Warwick Buckley, designer of the B45 and managing director of CML. “the traditional boatbuilding material used to be wood, then production boat building moved into composites but I have always wanted to build a modern, production cruiser produced from wood composite construction.”

The first B45 performance cruiser is being built from a 22mm thick cedar strip plank/epoxy construction. Under the waterline the hull is sheathed with aramid to give extra strength. This boat will be the signature model of three different versions in this range. The company say they are planning to showcase the boats at the 2011 Southampton Boatshow
