Prickly Bay Waterside Helical Staircases underway.

Over the last few years, CML have been involved with the Prickly Bay Waterside development supplying composite components. The development (located in the old boat yard, Grenada) is a mix of properties ranging from one bedroom to five/six bedroom apartments and houses.

CML’s involvement has ranged from supplying structural curved GRP masts for the lawn houses and GRP cladding to sit on top of the steel work for the marine houses. Now the final design has been agreed on for the Helical Staircases. The design has been a difficult one with so many elements to take into consideration. Structure has been an issue, High Modulus were asked to engineer the loads the staircase would be subjected to, for which carbon fibre was a firm favourite both for it’s aesthetic appeal and structural capabilities but the black carbon fibre would absorb a lot of heat so the resins used would have to be manufactured with a high TG (Transition to Gel) temperature range and some teak added to the stair tread for comfort. The result is an impressive feature to these already highly desirable properties.
